Authorities initially believed the Sunday act was ‘deliberate’ and the bomber died in the blast.

The ministry said the bomber was a 27-year-old Syrian refugee who had come to Germany two years ago but was denied asylum.

The unnamed victim is believed to be a Polish woman who worked at a fast food restaurant and may have been pregnant at the time of the attack, German tabloid Bild reports.

Three of the 12 wounded were seriously hurt, police said.

Police said that they do not yet know whether the attacker had a radical Islamist background. The investigation currently focused on the attacker’s communications.

The attack comes as on Friday, a shooting rampage claimed nine lives in Munich, and on July 18, an axe attack injured several on a train on Wurzburg.
