Armed Taliban Kidnapped 52 Farmers In Jawzjan

MEP: Local officials in Jawzjan province say, the armed Taliban have kidnapped 52 farmers on Tuesday from Darzab district of the province.

Mohammad Reza Ghafuri, a spokesman for the governor of Jawzjan province told the Middle East Press, the farmers were abducted after they went to their lands for plowing.

Mr. Ghafur said the Taliban have taken these people to make money and illegal stoppages and elder merits are trying to save them from the hands of this group.

But Police Chief of Jawzjan said, many farmers are released by the group and a number still remains hostage to this group.

Rahmatullah Turkistani, Police Chief of Jawzjan told the Middle East Press, the armed Taliban kidnapped the farmers for banning them of profiting the government-owned lands.

He said the armed Taliban have issued a command in areas under their control that no one is allowed to take personal benefit of the public interest.

Taliban militants have released a number of these farmers after charging them to pay fine and a number of them are still in the group’s custody.
